Is It Any Wonder? – Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“I am not afraid of the tens of thousands set against me on every side.” (Psalm 3:7, Complete Jewish Bible)

One would think the United States of America is falling apart, if you lived on a secluded island and only saw the cable newscasts that hourly proclaim their misguided, opinionated, rather untruthful messages. Certainly you would though learn what Beelzebub means. Lord of the Flies. As in a lot of swarming buzz surrounding a garbage load of waste.

Is it any wonder then that the Creator, Lord of All, commands us to keep our eyes fixed on Him, and our ears tuned to what He is declaring and doing? We don’t live on an island lost afar off in the ocean, but rather do live in this nation founded providentially by the Lord. A correct presentation of written historical facts would show that, given the Founding Fathers often proclaimed their reliance on Almighty God, and fought to put this so into action. Knowing the biblical and sustaining word that was given to them then, which still holds true, will keep us steady as shaking occurs. A shaking, by the way, which He has orchestrated.

We can count on Him to sustain us in these troubled times, and at the same time see His hand guiding us. One way He has done this was through the divine placement of one into national leadership, again. Needed as much now as when the foundations of this country were laid.

I am confident that what happened on the night of the national elections in November 2016 was the hand of God granting us mercy, knowing that we as a people have yet to complete a very important work. He wasn’t going to let the gates of hell take us further down the road of perdition. Instead He shook things up, keeping His agenda and times on track.

Look what has been done since the new president has taken office, against all odds, or so it has seemed. President Donald J. Trump has done a tremendous job!

Here is just a short list of those accomplishments, which I found on the Washington Times website, written by Robert Knight on Sunday, May 6, 2018. This consists of Trump’s first 500 days in that office.

  • Appointed Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and more than 75 other constitutionally sound federal judges, 30 of which are serving.
  • Reinstated an expanded Mexico City Policy blocking foreign aid from being used for abortions.
  • Cracked down on illegal immigration and “sanctuary cities.” As Attorney General Jeff Sessions put it: “The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our laws, and the catch and release policies of the past are over.”
  • Issued an order killing two federal regulations for every new one. In actuality, 16 were cut for every new one in his first year, saving billions.
  • Engineered a historic tax cut that will save money for more than 80 percent of American households.
  • Withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, ending the threat of U.S. governance by international bureaucrats.
  • Reversed onerous Obama environmental rules that gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ham-handed authority to destroy the coal industry and abrogate landowners’ rights.
  • Kick-started America’s energy sector by curtailing regulations, facilitating the Keystone XL Pipeline and opening up vast federal areas to oil and gas exploration.
  • Presided over an economic and stock market boom, lowered unemployment and brought manufacturing jobs back to America from overseas.
  • Rebuilt the nation’s military, destroyed ISIS and faced down North Korea’s “Rocket Man.”
  • Issued an order enforcing First Amendment protections for religious liberty.
  • Restored the freedom of military chaplains to espouse biblical morality, and essentially reversing Mr. Obama’s transgender military policy.
  • Revoked the Education Department’s order that public schools allow gender-confused males access to girls’ restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Cracked down on sex trafficking. President Trumpsigned a law allowing states to move against sex-ad Internet sites, and the Justice Department on April 6 seized and shut down Backpage.com, which carried ads for prostitution, including trafficked children.
  • Overhauled the mismanaged Veterans Administration and giving veterans more health care choices.
  • Replaced Obamacare incrementally, beginning with a repeal of the individual mandate.
  • Imposed sanctions on Venezuela’s socialist dictatorship and revising Mr. Obama’s deals with communist Cuba.
  • Recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and repairing damage that Mr. Obama did to the U.S.-Israel relationship.
  • Worked with Central American nations to crack down on MS-13 gangs.

As a Christian, I would especially highlight his recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving our embassy there; his ongoing commitment to appoint pro-life Supreme Court justices; and his relentless fight to defund Planned Parenthood, which murders babies daily under cover of “choice” and family preference.

His actions to restore our military might have also proven highly effective and timely.

Is it any wonder he is continually ridiculed by the opposition, and 90% of press reports of him and his actions are negative?

We sing God bless America, and so we should. Acknowledging His powerful hand in action, guiding and accomplishing His purposes, once again should cause us to give thanks, declare our utter dependence on Him, and be confident that what He began He will certainly finish.

With confidence I believe we will see the desires of our Lord overcome those of the evil one.

God has our back. He has not given up on this land.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Steve Martin’s latest book: HOPE – Founded in the Solid Rock

Steve Martin’s latest book

HOPE – Founded in the Solid Rock

Just released June 12, 2018

Buy here: Amazon paperback: $8.95

Soon – Kindle: $1.99

It would be nice if you could run down to the local grocery store and buy a package of hope. After all, don’t we find we need it every day? A few good helpings daily sure would be nice.

It is not quite that simple to get, but hope is certainly possible to obtain, and keep. The way I have found hope is by believing the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, as put forth truthfully in the Bible. Through the centuries, the words written in the Word have proven accurate and life-changing in the very ones who have chosen to believe. I include myself among them.

The daily news will get you discouraged. The bank statement and monthly bills which come by mail or smartphone will drain you of your pursuit of happiness. One minute you are “up”. The next minute you hit a wall. What is it that keeps us pressing on to accomplish the good in life? Family and friends can be a good source to rely on, but even then those relationships can falter. We need more.

We need hope in our lives.

My desire and prayer are that as you read these messages you will obtain hope. Not a hope that will get you just through this day, but an eternal hope where you can stand strong, press on, and know deep in your heart that when it is all said and done, what He, Jesus, has said and done will be the very truth that keeps you until the end.

Find hope. Keep it within, and know that the faith, hope, and love of the Almighty God will always be there for you. He is our only hope.

More Quickly – Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“I myself will gather what remains of my flock from all the countries where I have driven them and bring them back to their homes, and they will be fruitful and increase their numbers. I will appoint shepherds over them who will shepherd them; then they will no longer be afraid or disgraced; and none will be missing,” says Adonai.” (Jeremiah 23:3-4, Complete Jewish Bible)

On January 3, 2018 I woke up remembering a dream the Lord had given me that night. I try to remember dreams when He gives them to me, but often I don’t, as much as I try later. But this one I did recall.

In the dream, I was at an airport and I could see labels marked “Aliyah” (immigration to Israel). The labels were being used to tag luggage so that each piece could be properly claimed later upon arrival at the traveler’s destination. I could see it was a Canadian airport, and these were American Jews passing through the airport system. Israel was the final stopping point for them.

There were so many of them needing the label “Aliyah” that the airport ran out of the tags. I can’t recall what the airport personnel did at that point, but it didn’t seem to stop the movement of the people.

When thinking about this later, and after sending a brief message to a friend in Israel who is involved in aliyah for Jews, I believe the Lord is ramping up the timetable for Jews around the world to make aliyah – to return to Israel as their homeland. I believe it will especially be important for American Jews to seriously consider this move for themselves and their families in these coming years. I am not sharing this out of fear, but out of the sense that it is certainly now time.

The time has come to move. The Lord has prepared the way for them.

The phrase “more quickly” comes to mind, as the urgent sense of timing is more important now that it has ever been. Sometimes you know or sense something is to be done, and you sit on it for a while, either out of procrastination, ignorance or unwillingness to acknowledge it. I sense that that time for these doing so is coming to an end. They must be willing to act, and then do so. Otherwise, it will not be an option, or it will cost more in money and effort than it would have if obedience had taken place earlier.

I pray for the Lord’s provision and protection to be with them as they heed His voice.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Jerusalem & Friends – The Camels. Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“Then Rebekah lifted her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from her camel.” (Genesis 24:64, NKJV)

Rebekah was a natural. Being she was raised among camels, the normal means of desert travel, she certainly knew how to get on and get off properly. She probably never gave it a second thought. A camel girl well trained!

On any tour to Israel one thing you really enjoy looking out for are the roaming camels. These beasts of burden have been around since before Noah I would imagine, who would have had two on the ark. Abraham and his two sons certainly had many, being rich in favor. Jacob and his boys accumulated herds of them, roaming the deserts of the Promised Land under the watchful eye of the Living God of Israel.

Each time I have had the opportunity to ride the touring bus through the Land, my camera was always ready, hoping to catch the Bedouin’s camels walking in the nearby hills along Highway 1 headed down to the Dead Sea from Jerusalem. You can often see these created creatures among the black tents of these desert people or corralled within a makeshift fenced-in area nearby on the sloping, sparse landscape. To both young and old, seeing a camel out in their natural habitat is a real delight.

My first experience in riding one didn’t go so good. It was at a tourist restaurant stop on the way to Beersheva, with its robed owner awaiting any tourist, even the not-so-knowledgeable ones. Anyone ready to give him $5 for a few short laps, or at least two, around the food stop parking lot. My thought, “I can do this. Get the camera out and watch me ride!”

Already down on his really thick knees, head proudly held high, this camel gave me a look, and stayed somewhat still while I pulled up onto his single hump, covered with multi-colored blankets and some leather under them to serve as the saddle. I was given a few instructions on how to hang on, and then slowly walked around the parking lot. Not a big deal, until the dismount.

What I failed to hear, or even to be told, was most likely thought by both owner and camel one of two things. I was either a seasoned rider, or I was smart enough to figure it out – how to properly prepare for the upcoming, or down coming, dismount. Being I hadn’t paid any attention to others I had seen on other occasions, or because they typically had a platform to get on and off from, I had little idea how it would happen.

The camel did his normal thing. He stopped, bent his front knees forward, and dropped down to the blacktop. HARD.

As for me? My head jerked back at first, and then before I could say, “Help!” I flew over his brown head. Down I went, flying head first into the hard ground.

No, it wasn’t a “10” on the dismount. Maybe a “2”.

My glasses smashed first, giving no cushion for my head. This photo tells the result. At least I could still smile!

Would I do it again? Why certainly! But now a bit wiser, and paying attention to the fact that you must lean way back, hang on tight, and act like a rodeo master when on the back of a camel just naturally preparing to let you down.

When you make it to Israel, hoping for that opportunity and provision to come, go ride a camel! The ones along the road in the desert are just waiting for you to show them you have what it takes to ride ‘em!

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Strategies of the Lord – Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“So the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks and female and male servants and camels and donkeys.” (Genesis 30:43, NASU)

For too long I have watched Christians follow the patterns of the secular world when it comes to doing a basic thing, like making money. It seems they get the big ideas – “Let’s make a really smart phone and call it, well, the “iPhone” (after all, our company name is “Apple”), or “We need a new search engine name. How about something crazy like “Google”? (See below, way below, for how the name actually came forth. But only after you read my article first!)

The world comes up with a slogan like, “Coke is the real thing.” So next thing we know the Christians are marketing items with, “Jesus is the real thing.”

Or wearing a t-shirt with Jesus in sunglasses, quoting the movie, “I’ll be back.”. Is “The Terminator” (Arnold Schwarzenegger) now the one Jesus is to model after? It should be the other way around.

Don’t we have it backwards? Aren’t we called to be the leaders, the innovators, the ones with the answers?

Take the Hollywood movie producers who create the bigtime blockbuster, and soon after the faith community attempts to produce something in the same genre, and it flops. (But we are getting better! There have been some really good faith-based movies in the last five years.)

If you have been paying attention you will know where much of the new technology is now coming from. The Jews in Israel! Warren Buffet sure is investing there.

I had a young man call me once at my Christian ministry administrative office years back, all excited about coming up with a car flag to hang out the window with a Bible or catchy saying on it. He had seen the sports flags being hung from car windows, every Saturday and Sunday in his town. He said we needed to do the same.

As he spoke on the phone, I was silently thinking to myself, “Is this how we do it? We copy what the world system puts out, only with a “Christian” flavor to it?”

Why is this so? As followers of the Creator Himself, we should be the ones who receive the brilliant ideas, the inventive solutions, the strategies of the Lord. We have the heavenly connection, through the Holy Spirit, to know the thoughts and plans of the Lord. He is the brilliant One! Just look at the human body, the vast solar system, the depths of the massive oceans. What an Awesome God He is!

We are the ones who need to listen to what He is saying, as He desires to give us the strategies and the means to produce wealth and bring solutions to all kinds of problems, which in turn will serve our fellow man.

When I asked the Lord this Monday as to what I should be reading in His Word, He clearly said, “Jacob.” That was not what I was expecting, but I went to the book of Genesis and have been reading about Jacob. Fascinating.

In just a quick overview, Jacob had served his father-in-law Laban for over 14 years, in order to have his daughter Rachel as his wife. (If you recall, Laban had instead given Jacob his eldest Leah on his wedding night, being the deceiver that Laban was. And we thought Jacob was the deceiver?) Many years later, when Jacob was finally fed up with it all, and ready to move on from under this unrighteousness, the Lord gave him the means to do it.

“Then Jacob took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane trees, and peeled white stripes in them, exposing the white which was in the rods. He set the rods which he had peeled in front of the flocks in the gutters, even in the watering troughs, where the flocks came to drink; and they mated when they came to drink.

So the flocks mated by the rods, and the flocks brought forth striped, speckled, and spotted. Jacob separated the lambs, and made the flocks face toward the striped and all the black in the flock of Laban; and he put his own herds apart, and did not put them with Laban’s flock.

Moreover, whenever the stronger of the flock were mating, Jacob would place the rods in the sight of the flock in the gutters, so that they might mate by the rods; but when the flock was feeble, he did not put them in; so the feebler were Laban’s and the stronger Jacob’s. So the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks and female and male servants and camels and donkeys.” (Genesis 30:37-43, NASU)

Now that is a strategy that you just can’t make up on your own. God did it for him.

I struggle in my faith often, trying to come up with ways to fund the ministry the Lord has called my wife and I to do. There are several projects we are aiming to meet needs with His provision.

Our heart is to have the means for international pastors and young people to make a once-in-a-life-time trip to Israel, to stand where Jesus (Yeshua) stood. We have been given the heart by our Lord to provide Bibles for those who don’t have one in foreign countries; another is to make ways to provide for the children of widows who struggle daily with food, clothing and shelter; also to help support Messianic families in the Holy Land on a regular basis, as they reach out to others around them.

I know the Lord knows the way to get it done. I am pressing into Him to know His strategies. He will show me, and you, the way to go to get it done.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Origin of the name “Google”

From time to time I read or hear stories of the origin of the search engine and company name “Google” that are incorrect, which prompts me to write this brief account, based on my understanding of the genesis of the name. The source of my information is my friends and colleagues from Wing 3B of the Gates Computer Science Building at Stanford University, where Google was born.

In 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin called their initial search engine “BackRub,” named for its analysis of the web’s “back links.” Larry’s office was in room 360 of the Gates CS Building, which he shared with several other graduate students, including Sean Anderson, Tamara Munzner, and Lucas Pereira. In 1997, Larry and his officemates discussed a number of possible new names for the rapidly improving search technology. Sean recalls the final brainstorming session as occurring one day during September of that year.
Sean and Larry were in their office, using the whiteboard, trying to think up a good name – something that related to the indexing of an immense amount of data. Sean verbally suggested the word “googolplex,” and Larry responded verbally with the shortened form, “googol” (both words refer to specific large numbers). Sean was seated at his computer terminal, so he executed a search of the Internet domain name registry database to see if the newly suggested name was still available for registration and use.
Sean is not an infallible speller, and he made the mistake of searching for the name spelled as “google.com,” which he found to be available. Larry liked the name, and within hours he took the step of registering the name “google.com” for himself and Sergey (the domain name registration record dates from September 15, 1997).

Why Israel?

Why Israel? Why not? This little booklet consists of messages previously written in my books, which of themselves contain many various themes. I wanted to devote one book to just Israel and the Jewish people, and so this small booklet was compiled.

As you read the following, consider the truth contained in Scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, which spell out the commitment of God the Father to choose a people who will be a light to the nations. He chose the Jews, and gave them the Promised Land of Israel. It does not matter what other national governments try to say, do, or accomplish apart from the plans and purposes of the Lord. They will fail. His Word is true. It is eternal. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever, and thus His commitment in keeping His promises made to the Jewish people will be fulfilled.

I hope you stand with them in these last days.

Steve Martin

Available in paperback and Kindle from Amazon: Why Israel? by Steve Martin

“He has said, “It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Ya‘akov

and restore the offspring of Isra’el. I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah 49:6, Complete Jewish Bible)

In May of 2016 Laurie and I embarked on another overseas trip to spend time with our friends in Israel. It was my 12th journey to the Land. For Laurie, her third. As part of the ministry of Love For His People, founded by us in 2010, we seek to show further tangible support for those we lift up in our prayers, with our voice, and with ongoing monthly financial blessing. We spend time with families similar to yours and ours, demonstrating our solid commitment to stand strong with them.

It is a spiritual connection, supernatural in design, bestowed by the Lord Himself. As Derek Prince once said, “You don’t choose Jerusalem; Jerusalem chooses you.” In other words, the Lord God of Israel is the One who speaks His words, choosing ones to stand in the spiritual battle realm, supporting those He has called as His chosen ones. And as a debt we owe to the Jewish people, we take our stand alongside them.

Over the centuries the Jews have been the faithful ones to receive and write down His Scriptures, carefully and dutifully passing them to the next generations, as His Holy Spirit spoke the anointed words through the Jewish prophets. And at the proper time, in fulfillment of the prophecies, the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), came as promised for the good of the nations. If it had not been for their diligence, endurance and commitment through those centuries of destruction, murder and banishment throughout the nations, believers would not have the roots of our faith today.

In the last 100 years and more, the Lord has been regathering the Jews from all over the world to this land promised to them, given in covenant specifically to them since the days of Abraham and Moses. To be a light to the nations, demonstrating the eternal love of God the Father, together with His Only Son, they are fulfilling that prophetic word. Because of His protection and faithfulness to them, this will ever be their home.

“’He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’ (Jeremiah 31:10, NKJV)

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:8-12, NASU)

We delight to uphold the Lord’s plans for His people. We count it a joy to be a part of His purposes for Israel in these last days. We continue to give ourselves to strengthen, encourage and freely give to those who have stood for Him.

To the believers in Yeshua, we give thanks for their commitment to His Name. For those who are yet to know the Messiah, we say that your time will come, and we will be there for you.
